After The Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA) had placed for 40 years, it is now declared as unconstitutional by the Court of Appeal.
What clearly can be seen here is that, Malaysians has been treated as FOOL for 40 years long.
Two judges, from the appellate court, Hishamuddin Yunus and Linton Albert, tell the government and their people on how “weird” the Act in a student's politics case recently.
Under Section 15 (5)(a) of the UUCA, University students are not allowed participating in any political activities, including participation in political rally, or the expression of political party stand.
However, it shows a clear contradiction when Malaysian Constitution specifies that, the people will have the political right when they have reached to the legal age.
By their logic, as long as you are not a university student, you might be a secondary school dropout and now reaching the legal age, you know your political rights, then you can involved in political rallies.
Government explained that the motion is to make sure student avoid distractions in their studies.
However, it is hard to link politics and studying hard as one! Student who stays away from politics doesn’t mean that they will have a good performance in exam.
There are students who dislike politics uninterested in reading but keep romancing around instead.
It is good describe when most of the exam paper might involve political issues, giving them an opportunity to score their paper based on the real experience, isn’t?
Eventually, it has disappointed university students- which is known as the future hope of the countries, waive not involved in the politics.
Like it or not, we have been fools for too long, is time for government to wake up and demolish UUCA.
