The chosen articles reported about 25 express bus passengers injured in a highway crash. Three sources selected were “The Malaysian Insider” online, “The Star Online” and “Sin Chew Jit Poh” online.
In all 3 articles, it was stated that three people including a Cambodian tourist were seriously injured while 22 others had minor injuries. The express bus they travelled in lost control and plunged into a drain. The police are questioning the 45-year old bus driver about his reckless driving.
“The Malaysian Insider” had the shortest news article and lesser details among the three. The reporting style is more like a summary rather than an article. The news reported was unclear and there wasn’t any picture attached. Hence the readers have to imagine the seriousness of the accident without any emotional impact on them. It also has a platform for readers to share and leave their comments about the article.
“The Star Online” reported more details compared to “The Malaysian Insider”. The victims’ encounter was described in details and the report style is generally from the victims’ point of view. An interview statement from the Johor Bharu (North) deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Akhir Ishak was attached to provide credibility. Pictures of the accident and the victims at the hospital were provided for a better view on the accident.
Whereas “Sin Chew Jit Poh” had the longest and detailed article compare to the others. The accident was reported in a very apparent manner where the reader knows every single details of the accident and it also guides the readers to picture how the tragedy happened. The article covered a wider perspective and angle where interviews covered almost all of the passengers and also the bus company. There were more pictures available illustrating the consequences of the impact. Words used were vivid and touches the reader’s heart.
As a conclusion, “Sin Chew Jit Poh” has better news organization in terms of arranging the way of reporting and having an emotional impact on the readers compared to “The Star Online” and “The Malaysian Insider”. Each corporation has its own way to disseminate the message to readers. One would prefer reading “Sin Chew Jit Poh” over “The Malaysian Insider” and “The Star Online” as the article is much more concrete and more details are provided for better understanding.
