Animal abuse is said to result from the human ignorance about human abusive behaviours and consequences towards animals. The cases of animal abuse are getting serious in Malaysia. Many of the animals are being killed and destroyed by inhumanity process. For example the video that showed a man abusing his poodle because he wants his dog to stand on its hind legs.
This issue has been seriously hitting the alarm of the government. Although there are lots of promises have been made by the government toward the action in preventing animal abuse, however there is still nothing coming out of it so far, says Patrick Lee an animal right activist. Referring to the Petknode case, those affected pet owners have lodged their police reports against Petknode, however only severe light actions were taken against them. It indirectly reflects that animals are treated as a lower status living thing, which human don’t even bother to care about their safety and wellness.
Furthermore, Section 44 of the Animal Act 1953 (2006 Amendment) stated that anyone who is found guilty of an offense of animal cruelty, they shall be liable to a fine of RM200 or imprisonment for a term of six months or both. Don’t you think that the sentence is too light? Chairman of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) emphasized that, such paltry sentences will send out the wrong message to the public that it’s alright to abuse animals. The government and concerned authorities should have taken serious consideration in revising the sentence punishment.
There are some suggestions from the public that the penalty should be increased and enforcement plus active prosecution on cases of animal cruelty by whom it may concern. This issue of animal abuse must come to an end to make our planet a better place to stay.
