Are Expatriates is The Concern?

             I-Pass is a new identification system to replace the current I-Kad system for expatriates in the country and will be enforced by the government. I-Pass will have a microchip with biometric data embedded similar to the MyKad. Furthermore, expatriates can use I-Pass as a complement to the passport for identification purposes moving within the Peninsular Malaysia. Although it may sound as a good idea facilitating to the expatriate, but it may not be the same for Malaysians.

            Why would the government implement such a system, encouraging expatriates to flood into our homeland, without even considering the many Malaysian graduates? With the fact that our economy is undergoing a drastic change today, we are being witnesses of how people are changing jobs, and worst of all the exportation of professionals to foreign countries. 

            Besides that, the Malaysian government has also decided to allot more than 90 thousand sets of I-Pass to foreign professionals including their families in the country in its initial stage. I-Pass has almost the similar feature with Malaysian identity card, MyKad. How if in the coming years, these I-pass holders have the right to vote in election? Is this a government’s trick to protect their own power and position in the country? Does I-Pass equal to MyKad? 

             In spite of all, the government should focus on ways to bring back the locals whom have migrated to elsewhere, rather than importing foreigners into the country. And most importantly is to prevent our citizens from moving out of our homeland. This would only attract more foreigners into our land. The government should enforce a stricter rule to limit the I-Pass users and thus preventing I-Pass holder slop over to Malaysian’s right.
