The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) reviews the proposal to disburse tuition fees from year 2013. This issue has caused a lot of feedbacks from the public because it might increase the burden of poor families. Hence, three different media has been selected, including NTV7 Mandarin News, Malaysiakini online newspaper and The Star newspaper to make comparison.
For the similarities, the media had created emotional impact. For instance, they had clearly stated that this plan is going to affect the students from poor families which will cause these people to worry about their daily expenses in college or university. Moreover, the source of the Malaysiakini and The Star’s article were from Bernama, a news agency, except the NTV7 Mandarin News. In addition, the objectivity of these three media is same as they have reported the truth said by the President of National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
Across over the three media, there are differences in between whereby NTV 7 news had eye-catching visuals to create better understanding among the public. Whereas, Malaysiakini only had still image to support the news as it was online news. The Star, print media doesn’t provide any image in reporting the issue. In term of complexity, NTV 7 news and Malaysiakini has reported this issue with detailed explanation by using facts and figures in the news content. However, The Star newspaper reported in a simple content as a summary of the current update for this issue.
In The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) proposal reviewing issue, different media have different writing style and structure in covering the news for the public. The news content written is always depending on the media’s perspective. The public interprets news differently from the different media. However, the public is constantly updated in their daily activities through media.
