There have been reports recently about the prices of goods sold at Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) shops are actually expensive than the other hypermarket. DAP’s national publicity chief Tony Pua said that he had compared the daily goods price which sold at 1Malaysia shops, Carrefour, and Tesco hypermarket. The result found out that even some of the goods are cheaper but they are far less than 30% to 50% discount as written on the advertising.
The similarity of both reports is that they had clearly mentioned the comparison price figure detaily between KR1M and other hypermarkets, which is the main highlight issue for this case. Both The Star online and Malaysiakini were more focus on the price differential of the products that sold at 1Malaysia shop.
However, the differences between Malaysiakini and The Star online are, Malaysiakini more straight forward in reporting news, but The Star online use implicit way. Malaysiakini will quote the words that spoke from sources in news, which is come from Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara), regardless his words are offended or not. The Star online will filter and censored the news content before it publishes online.
Besides, Malaysiakini will publish almost all the details of news, while The Star online summarizes the news. Malaysiakini has fully reported what Pua has said, but The Star tries to avoid touch the sensitive part of Pua words by summarize what he had said.
From this, Malaysiakini will able to give public a 360 degree view of news, whereby The Star online will only shows the side that has been censored. Malaysiakini give audience what the audience want to see, The Star online give audience what the publisher want the audience to see.
