Seksualiti Merdeka! Maybe Not.

Seksualiti Merdeka 2011 has become the latest debate following the ban on the event which was supposed to be held to discuss human rights for the lesbian, bi-sexual, gay and transgender (LBGT) community.  The only similar significant can found from the 3 media is the event scheduled to be held from 9th to 13th November was banned by the police to safeguard public order.

The interviewee point-of-view from both media offer different view from authorities and politician. In Utusan Malaysia Online, the spokesman from government unit, Mr Faizal critics the free sex culture they advocated against the majority of the world's religions, especially Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. Meanwhile from the China Press online, Datuk Hishamuddin say seksualiti merdeka is creating sensitive issue and its totally opposite with the Malaysia culture. For The Star Online, MCA president Datuk Chua says that it is people’s choice on choosing their sex preference as long it does not harm anyone.

The techniques representing their stand and writing style are different between all the articles from the three different media companies. We found that articles from Utusan Malaysia and China Press are against the Seksualiti Merdeka program while The Star shows their standpoint as neutral. This is because The Star uses phrases like “we neither support nor condemn “seksualiti merdeka” and “sexual preference is a very individual thing’” as well as publishing articles quoting opinions from interviewees.

As a conclusion, China Press online has better news organization in terms of arrangement and content of the news and leave a question for readers to think about the news. We prefer China Press online more than other 2 media, both The Star Online and Utusan Online to provide a better understanding for the readers.
