Last Wednesday, 9th November 2011, burglars broke into a bank in a suburb in Kuala Lumpur early yesterday and carted off an automated teller machine (ATM) .Comparing news sources from two company such as the Sinchew daily online and the AsiaOne.com .
Sinchew daily online clearly stated that there were five to six suspects who are involved in the crime act while AsiaOne.com claimed that there were at least 3 suspects involved. The cash machine, which was prised open and emptied of RM316,000, was found in a bush some 10km away in Jalan Ampang. Both the articles stated that the failure of the security alarm contributed to the success of the robbery, but Sinchew daily online relate this crime to previous achieve, suggesting that the OXY gang has something to do with the robbery, drawing a conclusion that they were also involved in the robbery of 2-7- 2010, 16-6-2010, 8-3- 2010 and September of 2009 in multiple locations all over Kuala Lumpur.
Sinchew Daily has updates from the law enforcement saying that they have established a special task force to investigate the reason behind the failure of the alarm system. They interviewed the police who is in charge of the investigation claiming that they have leads to identify those suspects because they were able to retrieve multiple finger prints from the crime scene. AsiaOne.com claims that there were no leads on locating the suspects now. AsiaOne.com covers only the actual incident of the day and did not go into the details of the investigation progress. Both of the sources urge those with information on the case to call the Cheras district police headquarters at 03-92840083 or the nearest police station. Sinchew daily online also stated that this is a well planned crime, everything were well arranged and the criminals knows what they were doing and not an act of impulsion.
In a nutshell, Sinchew daily online provides in-depth information on the incident because it has to maintain a level of peace in the society as it is a locally driven media. It updates regularly to keep the audience in a loop. On the other hand, AsiaOne.com is an international news platform, it couldn’t react to immediacy as the news relied on the local news provider, hence the news was not so informative as compared to Sinchew Daily Online
