10 to 11 years old Youngsters are Rape Case Criminal

Last Thursday, there was a case which regarding on four youngsters rape and sodomise a seven years old girl. It is sad to hear youngsters who age between 10 to 11 years old to commit into rape crime.

Through our group discussion, we think that nowadays children have the opportunity to get contacted with the media and internet which contain a lot of sexual footages. Children did not aware the significance and the evilness of their crime but they just learn what they saw. Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs president Akhram Syah Sanusi said that today is proliferation of the new media on negative elements such as illicit sex and it is boundless in terms of what is unacceptable moral behaviour. He also mentioned that censorship laws should not be weakened but in fact should be strengthened.

We believe that parents nowadays are busier than parents from the past decades. According to the sociologists at the University of Maryland said, parents spend more time on working rather than accompany and educate their children. Parents did not know what their children have learned through television programs or internet. Children could easily adapt what they have learned or watched, because they could not differentiate whether it is right or wrong.

In our opinion, we suggest that sex education should be introduced in school to create awareness and personal safety among the children. There are two different type of sex education which is Comprehensive Sexuality education and Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage program. According to The News Straits Times, SMK Seri Hartamas parents-teacher association chairman Salmah Abu Bakar has stated that sex education could let students get information from trained teacher at school rather than they get information from the wrong sources such as Internet or their peers.
