Railway train collided with a road fuel tanker causing 12 people injured.

            A huge explosion occurred between a railway train and a road fuel tanker collided at Jalan Kepayan-Jalan Lintas junction near the Kota Kinabalu International Airport on 31 October 2011. 12 people were injured in this incident.  

Similarities of all three sources (New Straits Times newspaper, The Star online news, and NTV7 7Edition) are, they provide attention grabbing headlines which the phrases are simple and direct. They are using hard lead, which wrote in subject-verb-object order.  The news impact on all sources is timeliness as they reporting the news immediately, and proximity which the case happens in Sabah. The six journalistic questions are briefly informed in the passage, while all three sources providing the same information thus accuracy can be seen.

For online news, it can creates higher emotional impact because the viewer are able to read the text , watch the visual and also able to get more information by clicking on the link provided on the webpage. For printed news, it creates lesser emotional impact because it only able to express the story through word and still images. Meanwhile, for TV news, viewer can view the news story with visual and audio.

In term of the complexity, the printed news has provided more details with different perspectives of the news story including victims, tank driver and Deputy Chief Minister. For online news, it also covers different type of perspectives which are Sabah Police Commissioner and Sabah Railways Director. Meanwhile, for TV news they only provided the summary of the accident.

Media nowadays are part our life. All the media are being molded according to the preference of different audience group. Including the style of reporting, the language used, the visual used and others. Yet, they are still able to update the audience with the current issue.

With the comparison we have done, it is obvious that each of the media are reporting on the same issue but again the style is different so that it can be adapt by the audience. In the end of the day, the final interpretation is still control by the audience. Media are only served as guidance for them to understand the news.
