Despite the cancellation of two very well-known international artistes, namely Sum 41 and Dashboard Confessionals, Rockaway Festival 2011 still managed to rock the neighborhood with the signing of the internationally popular bands The Used, All Time Low and Story of the Year. Following the huge success it was last year, Rockaway Festival 2011 continues its tradition of being the only and largest rock act in Malaysia that lasts 12 hours nonstop featuring international and local acts on the same stage. This year over 7000 people came to rock at the Carpark A of the Bukit Jalil Stadium on the 8th of October. Some came as early as 9.00 am as the event starts from 12.00 noon to 12.00 midnight with tickets being priced at a very affordable RM 88.
One day before the big event, The Used appeared for a press conference meeting held at The Palace of the Golden Horses to shed some light and create hype on the event. After the dust and flash photography had settled in, it was time to rock!
Over 15 local acts took stage, namely Deja Voodoo Spells, Hujan, Kyoto Protocol, Metalasia, Pop Shuvit, Love Me Butch and many more as the crowd was whipped into a frenzy with their showmanship and musical prowess. The main highlights, however, were the international acts, The Used, All Time Low and Story of the Year. All Time Low had girls throwing their undergarments on stage, The Used got the crowd head banging and Story of the Year oozed charisma and energy throughout their performance.
Overall, Rockaway Festival 2011 was a great music festival that promoted the local Malaysian music scene that was reinforced by great international acts. Rockaway Festival 2011 One Buck Short & Friends, together with Livescape Asia. Bring on Rockaway Festival 2012 please!
