PETALING JAYA: Starting next year 1st of January 2012, UTAR bus ticket price will increase for the first time since its establishment. The ticket will go up from RM0.70 to RM.0.80 per trip.
This decision was implemented by the UTAR board of directors after approved by the director of UTAR, Engineer Professor Dato’ Dr. Chuah Hean Teik and will become effective in all UTAR campuses in early 2012 with new bus tickets available by the end of this year in 1st December 2011.
With the petrol price gradually increase every year while bus ticket price remains the same since 2005 till present, there is a need to increase ticket price in order to cover costs for maintenance and petrol price in the market while maintain operational at the same time. This was due to the increase of 66.7% of the diesel fuel price from RM1.08 per litre in 2005 to RM1.80 per litre in 2011 with a RM0.72 increase within 6 years.
The increase of ticket price will not affect the service and the operation of the bus as the timetable and the route which buses travelled remain the same. Many students believe that the new ticket price is still reasonable compared to other universities. The change is viewed as understandable given its circumstances and the needs to cover cost and avoid losses. However, in regards to the new ticket price, some expectations are voiced out where more number of trips per day and new routes set up for students that are staying at further distance from the campuses should be implemented.
